Important Change to the NIPT as of April 1, 2025 🔎

What does this mean for you as an expectant parent?

Starting April 1, 2025, the Non-Invasive Prenatal Test (NIPT) in the Netherlands will change. Until now, parents could choose whether they wanted to be informed about incidental findings (chromosomal abnormalities other than Down, Edwards, or Patau syndrome). From April onwards, this choice will no longer be available, and the NIPT will always be conducted with the reporting of any incidental findings.

🔹 This means that as an expectant parent, you will automatically receive more information about possible chromosomal abnormalities in your baby, the placenta, or in rare cases yourself. 
🔹 This information may have implications for further testing and pregnancy care. It’s important to consider this and discuss it with your midwife or doctor.

On this Valentine’s Day, we had a special and educational day together as a team at Lotuskind. We delved into haptonomy: a valuable approach that helps us strengthen the emotional and physical connection with others. 🤝🏻💖

It was a day full of new insights and exercises that brought us closer together not only as professionals but also as a team. By becoming aware of how we can touch and support ourselves and others, we learned to communicate with each other on a deeper level.

In addition to learning practical techniques, it was especially a day of collaboration, building trust, and personal growth. A perfect way to strengthen the bonds within our team, share laughter, and recharge with new energy! ✨

My name is Giulia Barabino, I’m 21 years old, and I am a third-year midwifery student from Genova, Italy.

After having completed high school, I started my university studies in 2022, and from the very beginning, I chose this path because I’m passionate about women’s health and have always been fascinated by the subject of childbirth.

At the beginning of my studies, I was not entirely clear on the specific role and competencies of a midwife.

However, over the course of these years, I have had the opportunity to discover just how rewarding and meaningful it is to support women during such an important and delicate moment in their lives.

Thanks to the Erasmus+ traineeship program, in my last year of university, I’ll have the incredible opportunity to come to the Netherlands for two months (from February to March of this year) to explore how the Dutch healthcare system operates.

I can’t wait to begin this experience, and I hope to learn as much as possible about your maternity care.
